The Park came to a standstill in early September 2021 with the arrival of a microburst caused by Hurricane Ida which toppled 200 trees. The Caumsett Foundation wanted to help address this enormous loss, especially in the front of the Park. The goal was to replace 52 significantly sized trees by Arbor Day 2022. We are happy to report that we have exceeded our goal and 60 new trees have been planted. The new flowering cherries, statuesque elms, American lindens and a variety of other tree species are an immediate presence here at the Park. The NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation partnered with the Foundation on this project by providing guidance, utility markouts and watering equipment for the trees’ maintenance.
